School interviews are a time when this should shine forth!

The worst advice I hear is that students should memorise answers for interviews. The best interview is a conversation. Even if a child is an Oscar-level actor, interviewers will quickly realise that they are parroting pre-rehearsed responses.

Encourage your child to discuss their ideas and thoughts with you. You’ll be amazed by the way they see the world. As will interviewers at the right-fit schools.

如果你的孩子踏入第6學年, 或者選擇到英國升學, 那即將踏入面試的季節! 記住以下步驟:

 

1: 建立時間表: 第一步是 ISEB 入學試 (Winchester, Eton, Westminster, St Paul’s, Tonbridge) 等都是使用這個入學試。可以到 www.pre-quest.com 嘗試一下模擬試。

 

2: 設想一下可能會遇到的面試類型。他們可能是小組面試 (Wycombe, Downe House, Wellington)、個人面試 + 考試 (St Paul’s, Eton) 或者學術面試 (Westminster, Winchester)。跟你的孩子傾談一下他們有甚麼期望。

 

3: 避免背誦答案! 學校討厭這個行為… 反之… 開始跟你的孩子討論他們的興趣和意向, 還有鼓勵他們去發展他們的興趣。

 

4: 選擇一本書, 一起閱讀和分享意見。

 

5: 尋找一些體驗, 可以培養你孩子之興趣: 參觀博物館或藝術館, 然後表達一下感想。

 

6: 和你的孩子一起查看學校網頁, 以及鼓勵他們去表達自己之意見, 和有甚麼想去嘗試。

 

如果你能輕鬆面對, 面試可以是一個非常正面的經驗, 學校也會嘗試鼓勵你的孩子分享一下他們的興趣。更重要的是, 不要慌張; 總有一所學校適合你孩子的。

如果您的孩子剛剛參加了伊頓公學 (Eton)、溫徹斯特 (Winchester)、湯布里奇 (Tonbridge)、查特豪斯 (Charterhouse)、惠靈頓 (Wellington)、克蘭利 (Cranleigh)、聖保羅 (St Paul’s)（繼續其他學校，請參閱此處的列表！）的其中入學申請之一的 ISEB 入學試，那麼您很可能會被一堆錯誤信息包圍。 所以我們列舉了一些經常被遙傳的錯誤訊息……

 

1. 這是有合格分數的……
不是……真的沒有。 學校將入學試與學校報告、參考資料和其他資料一起作為申請流程的一部分。 大多數學校會將所獲得的資料應用在一個範圍，這可能會根據他們的入學人數而加減。
根據經驗：一些教學節奏快、注重學業成績的學校（例如 St Paul’s）將選擇他們名單中的最好的考生。 一些擁有很好的援助和廣泛招生的學校（例如 Stowe）將使用更廣泛的衡量標準。

 

2. 某某獲得了100分……
學校並不會公佈這個入學試的成績……

 

3. 某某考了這個試兩次…….
除非發生嚴重的事件，否則他們不會在同一個學年裡應試兩次！ 每位考生只可以在一個學年參加一次考試，而所有使用入學試的學校都可以查看您孩子的成績。
每個學校都有自己的截止日期，不過一旦您參加了最早截止日期的考試，這個學年就是這一次。
有些學校的第七學年 (Y7) 入學申請有很遲的截止日期（例如Charterhouse），因此您的孩子可能會在 Y7 再次參加 ISEB 入學準備試，不過這是不同類別的問題。

 

溫徹斯特 (Winchester) 面試邀請已經公佈，我們注意到了今年使用 PreQuest 的學生取得了出色的成績。 如果您已使用了 PreQuest 並進行了 Pretest 級別的所有材料，您將會在面試評估中處於良好狀態。

你通過了 ISEB入學準備試, 跨過了面試… 而你只得到一個等候名單的位置。

不要絕望!

等候名單不是拒絕的意思, 你還在候選當中。

 

在2020年, 我們有5名學生從等候名單中脫穎而出, 成功取得Winchester學位; 1名男生從等候名單被Eton錄取; 1名女生也從Downe House等候名單中移出, 她的父母非常高興。

 

為什麼學校會有等候名單?

家長們會申請多間學校已不是甚麼秘密, 如果一間學校發出了10個錄取通知, 校方假設有一部分的考生不接受學位, 或者之後會放棄學額。因此, 便有了等候名單。

 

為甚麼學生會從等候名單轉移出來?

一些學生可能有幾個選擇考慮。當他們放棄了學位, 校方便會從等候名單中挑選學生來填補空位。

其他學位也將在獎學金考試後釋放出來。例如, Winchester的獎學金考試, 亦會預留一些學位給一般公開試的考生。當獎學金考試成績公佈了, 這些學位也同時釋放出來。同樣地, Harrow和Eton也會在獎學金成績公佈後發放學額。

由於種種原因, 某些學生可能無法就讀。當他們的家長通知學校時, 那些學位就會釋放出來。

 

何時學生會從等候名單中得到學額?

獎學金成績後釋放的學位: 請參閱學校的成績公佈時間。

對於突發的學位, 這些真的可以在任何時間發放出來。我有的經驗是, 一些非常好的學校會在最後一刻發放學位, 因為有些學生退學了。接受與否的確取決於有多大的靈活性和忍耐。

 

那麼Eton 的狀況如何?

在第7年級, 你的兒子將與一同在等候名單中的考生重新評估。家長會在臨近的時間收到校務處的有關訊息。

 

如果我收到一個等候名單, 那我該怎麼做?

你可以跟我告訴你的情況, 然後我會建議你一些可行方案。

 

這是一個希望嗎?

你需要面對現實和考慮其他選擇。以我的經驗, 大多數的等候名單都是真實的。學校喜歡你的孩子, 覺得他們會茁壯成長, 不過真的沒法容納他們。
