CIS- Chinese International School

Entry Process

CIS is a popular international school in Hong Kong that aims to produce well-rounded students who are both academically successful and engaged in the wider community. In previous years the admissions process for CIS has featured the iDAT assessment. This is a multi-skill test taken in one day over the course of around 3 hours for students entering the secondary division and 1.5 hours for students entering the primary division.

Stage 1:

Attending the CIS information session is highly encouraged by the school and is mandatory for anyone wishing to apply for Year 7 entry.

Stage 2:

The iDAT assessment features tests in English, Maths, and Reasoning. The test itself is online and features a combination of multiple choice and other questions. In the English portion, students will complete vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing tests. For maths, they will be tested on a number of different topics depending on age. Reasoning will focus on logic and critical thinking skills.

Stage 3:

On the same day as the above assessment, students will also be asked to take part in an interview. This will be in English and Mandarin (if the student has a background in that language) and will last 10-15 minutes.

Recommended Classes

Reasoning

With similarities to questions appearing on other online assessments such as ISEB Pre-Test and CAT4, practice is recommended to improve confidence.

English

Preparing for the variety of English questions that come up with comprehension, composition, and grammar activities.

Maths

Working on varied mathematical concepts and exam techniques to ensure students are confident before the exam.
